titleOfInvention | Multiply halogenated steroids |
abstract | Novel 9 alpha ,21-dihalo-11 beta ,17 alpha -dihydroxy-6 alpha -fluoro-16 beta -methylpregna-1,4-diene-3, 20-dione 17-esters of the formula <IMAGE> in which X1 represents chlorine or fluorine, X2 represents bromine or chlorine, R1 represents hydrogen or chlorine and R2 represents the acyl radical of a carboxylic acid, and their 1,2-saturated analogues, in which R1 represents hydrogen, are distinguished by a high degree of local antiinflammatory activity which is associated with a diminished systemic effect, for which reason they can be used in medicine for alleviating and controlling inflammatory conditions, particularly in the form of corresponding pharmaceutical preparations. They are obtained by processes which are conventional in steroid chemistry. |
