titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of 2,5-bis-(benzoxazolyl)-thiophene compounds |
abstract | A process for the preparation of 2,5-bis-(benzoxazolyl)-thiophene compounds of the formula <IMAGE> wherein R1 denotes hydrogen, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, optionally substituted phenyl or phenoxy, carboxyl or its functional derivatives including cyano, sulpho and its functional derivatives or alkylsulphonyl, R2 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, halogen or alkoxy, R3 denotes hydrogen, chlorine or alkyl and R4 and R5 each denote hydrogen or alkyl or conjointly denote the trimethylene or tetramethylene radical, in which process a sulphide of formula <IMAGE> is reacted with an alpha , beta -dicarbonyl compound of formula R4-CO-CO-R5, or with a functional derivative of such a compound, preferably in an inert solvent, in the presence of an acid or a base, especially in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate or alkali metal hydroxide. The compounds produced are valuable optical brighteners for organic materials. |
