titleOfInvention | Process for preparating steroid carboxylic acid salts and steroid carboxylic acid esters |
abstract | A novel process is described for preparing salts or esters of carboxylic acids of the androstane and D-homoandrostane series, including those compounds having expanded and/or contracted A, B and/or C rings and including 18- and/or 19-nor compounds which possess the substitution pattern on the 17 or 17a C atom which is shown in partial formula (I). <IMAGE> In the formula (I), R denotes hydrogen, an unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbon radical, or a free or functionally altered hydroxyl group. The process is characterised in that corresponding 20,21-ketoaldehydes of the pregnane or D-homopregane series, or of the 17 alpha -pregnane or 17a alpha -D-homopregnane series, are oxidised with an organic peracid in an inert solvent, and the resulting carboxylic acid is converted into a salt or an ester. |
