N-Phosphonomethylglycine is prepared in good yield by hydrolysing a compound of the formula I, in which R denotes hydrogen or lower alkyl, with an aqueous hydrohalic acid. The compound of the formula I is prepared by reacting N,N-(chloromethyl)-2,5-diketopiperazine with a tri-lower-alkyl phosphite or by reacting the disodium salt of 2,5-diketopiperazine with chloromethylphosphonic acid. <IMAGE> |
