titleOfInvention Decorative device or toy
abstract A device which can be used for decorative purposes or as a toy has a number of vessel parts (1) which are connected to one another in a row, are partly filled with a flowable medium (3), for example with sand, and are arranged such that they can rotate about a horizontal shaft (5). The medium in the vessel parts causes a moment in one direction of rotation, a moment in the other direction of rotation, caused by a load (8) acting on the shaft (5) or by the weight of the device itself suspended on a thread, maintaining the equilibrium with respect to the first moment. The slow trickling down of the medium in the vessel parts changes the position of the centre of gravity of the system, as a result of which one turning moment is reduced and, due to the descent of the load or the entire device, this leads to a rotation with lifting of the flowable medium (3) and hence again to a balancing of the turning moments. <IMAGE>
