abstract | Thebaine is obtained by first reacting salutaridinol with an organic or inorganic acid halide or an acid anhydride, preferably at low temperature. The intermediate obtained is then cleaved to give thebaine at a preferred temperature of 25-100 DEG C. Thebaine is an opium alkaloid and chemically related to morphine. It acts on the body similarly to strychnine. |
