titleOfInvention Alkyl aralkenyl ketones prepn. - useful as pesticides
abstract Ketones of formula: C6H5-Y-PHI-CH2-CHR3-CRivCH-CR1=O (I) (where PHI is p-phenylene; Y is CH2 or O; R1 is 1-4C alkyl; and R2 and R3 are H, CH3 or C2H5), which are esp. useful as insecticides, can be prepd. by reacting a cpd. of formula: C6H5-Y-PHI-CH2-CHR3-CR2=CH-COOH with 2 equiv. of R1-Li or by reacting a cpd. of formula: C6H5-Y-PHI-CH2-CHR3-CR2=O with a cpd. of formula: (R1O)2P(O)-CH2-CR1=N-cyclohexyl (where R1 is 1-4C alkyl) in the presence of a strong base and treating the prodt. with an aq. acid. (I; R1 = CH3; R3 = H) can also be obtd. by treating a cpd. of the formula: C6H5-Y-PHI-CH2CH2X nwhere X is halogen) with Mg and reacting the prodt. with a cpd. of the formula: R1C(OR111) =CH-COR2 (where R111 is CH3 or C2H5), the resulting enol ether being hydrolysed in the presence of an acid with simultaneous dehydration. (I; R2 = R3 = H) can also be obtd. by reacting a cpd. of formula: C6H5-Y-O-CH2CH2CHO with a cpd. of formula: (C6H5)3P=CH-CO-R1.
