titleOfInvention | Mineral carriers for volatile substances - prepd by hydrating partially dehydrated minerals with aq polyalkylene glycol |
abstract | A solid mineral carrier for volatile substances (esp. perfumes and/or bactericides or insecticides) is produced by hydrating a partially dehydrated mineral material with a dil. aq. soln. of a polyalkylene glycol or a monoether in which one OH gp. is replaced by Or (where R is 2-18C alkyl or 7-18C alkylaryl). The glycol (ether) increases the amt. of volatile substances that can be incorporated in the carrier without affecting the setting of the carrier or the release of the volatile substance from the carrier. The partially dehydrated mineral material is pref. plaster of Paris (forming gypsum when hydrated) or a mixt. contng. CaCO3 and Al silicate (forming cement when hydrated). The glycol is pref. polyethylene glycol or or polypropylene glycol with an ave. mol. wt. of 200-35,000 (esp. 6000-35,000). Pref. a perfume is added to an aq. slurry of plaster of Paris and 5-80% polyethylene glycol (based on the wt. of the plaster slurry) before the plaster has set. |
