titleOfInvention Para-hydroxy-benzoic esters - contg. tert-alkyl groups for protecting polyethylenes against ultra violet light
abstract p-Hydroxybenzoic acid esters of formula:- where R1 is C4-14 t-alkyl. R2 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, aralkyl opt. substd in the aryl by 1-2 alkyl or halogen gps. or aryl opt. substd. by 1-2 alkyl gps. R3,R4 are H, alkyl, R5 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyo, aralkyl, heterocyclic aromatic, or phenyl opt. substd. by 1-2 alkyl, or an alkoxy or a residue in the p-position of formula as above in the p-position to -COR5. Me is H or a divalent cation. Y is 0 or 1. Specifically (a) with y = 1, R1 t-butyl R t-butyl (o to hydroxy) R3 R4 t-butyl-(o-to hydroxy) Me is H or N1 and R5 either phenyl, p-chlorophenyl, p-t-butyphenyl, p-phenylphenyl and methyl, (b) with y = O, R1 R2 and Me as in (a) and R5 methyl. The cpds. are prepd, by esterification methods and are used for protecting org. cpds. against ultra-violet light, partic. polypropylene and polyethylene.
