abstract Cmpds. (I) and their non-toxic acid addn. and quaternary salts, are new (in which R1 is H, 1-17C opt. branched alkyl or alkenyl opt. substd. by halogen, OH, lower alkoxy, phenoxy, lower alkylthio, lower alkylamino, lower dialkylamino, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 1-6C alkanoyl, or benzoyl opt.substd. by lower alkyl, halogen, CF3 or NO2; or R1 is 3-10C mono-, bi- or tri-cyclic cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl opt.substd. by 1 or 2 lower alkyl gps., the bi- or tri-cyclic radicals may also be joined to X by a -CH2- gp.; or R1 is a gp. of formula (X) in which R3, R4 and R5 are independently H, 1-5C opt.branched alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, =4C dialkylamino, alkoxycarbonyl 2-6C mono- or di-alkylcarbamoyl, 2-5C alkanoyl, halogen, NO2, =4C alkoxy or alkylthio, haloalkyl, CN, OH, opt. substd. aryloxy, arylthio or arylamino, or opt.substd.aralkoxy, aralkylthio or aralkylamino in which the alkyl gp. has =3C atoms; q is 0-6, X is O, S, SO2 or NR6 where R6 is H, 1-15C alkyl or alkenyl, (CH3)2N- or (C2H5)2N-lower alkyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or lower alkanoyl, or NR6 forms with R1 an opt. unsatd. heterocyclic ring contg. 4-6C atoms opt. contg. O, S, N or NR7, where R7 is H, CH3 or C2H5; R2 is H or halogen; and one of m and n is 1 and the other is 0). (I) have anthelmintic activity, and control nematodes, e.g. Ascarides and Strongyloides, cestodes e.g. Dilepidides and trematodes, e.g. Fasciolides, in domestic animals. The dose is 25-1000 mg/kg., by oral or abomasal admin. (I) also have defoliant and desiccant activity, and may be used to defoliate plants such as cotton, legumes, sorghum, soya and potatoes.
