Caryophyllane deriv. (I) in which R1 and R2 together form oxo gp and R3 and R4 together are a C-C bond, or R1 = methyl, R2 and R4 together form epoxy gp and R3 = H, 12-norcaryophyll-6-ene-3-one can be made by reductive elimination of the epoxy gp from 6,7-epoxy-12-norcaryophyllane-3-one; 3,7-caryophallane-epoxide is made by isomerisation of caryophyll-6-3n-3ol. |
