Septomycine, an acidic, polymeric cyclic ether and its salts, are obtd. by incubating Streptomyces, hygroscopicus NRRL 5678 2-7 at 25-35 degrees C in a medium of (initial) pH 6.8-7.0. The broth is extd. with solvent, and the extruded matl. purified by chromatography e.g. on SiO2 or dextran gel. |
