abstract Active ingredients in positive inotropic compsns. for treating heart muscle deficiency, for use in human and veterinary medicine, consist of p-R1O-C6H4-O-CH2CHOHCH2NHR2 (I) (where R1 is a sugar gp. and R2 is isorpropyl, tert, Bu or alpha-methyl-phenethyl or 1-Me-3-Ph-propyl opt. substd. in Ph pt. (partic. (I) where R1 is O-Me-, O-benzyl, O-chlorobenzyl-, O-Ac-, O-benzoyl, 2,4-O-isopropylidene-, 2,4-O-benzylidene-1-glucopyranosidyl or -glucopyranosidyl. Pref. (I) are prepd. by reacting (a) p-R1O-C6H4-OH with ZCH2CHX1CH2NHR2 (where Z is reactive esterified OH and X1 is OH, or Z and X1 together are epoxy, or Z and H of amino gp. together form a direct bond), or (b) p-R1-O-C6H4-OCH2CHX1CH2Z1 with Z2R2 (where one of Z1 and Z2 is amino and the other is reactive esterified OH and X1 is OH, or Z1 with X1 is epoxy and Z2 is amino), or (c) splitting off dissociatable gp/gps. in (I) attached to amino and/or OH gp. or (d) reducing cpd. corresponding to (I) where N is double-bonded with one of its substituents or where N-bonded C carries OH.
