titleOfInvention 2-(4-Isobutylphenyl)butyric acid and salts - with antiinflammatory activity, prepd. by hydrolysis of its ethyl ester
abstract In the prepn. of 2-(4-isobutylphenyl) butyric acid or its salts ethyl 2-(4-isobutylphenyl) butyrate is hydrolysed in an alkali medium to give a salt of the acid then, if desired, converting the salt into free acid in quantitative yield. The prod. is an antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agent with low toxicity and less likely to cause gastric irritation and ulceration than aspirin.
