titleOfInvention Para-Isobutyl-phenyl-butyric acid prepn. - from corresp. acetonitrile cpd., having antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity
abstract 2-(4-Isobutylphenyl)-butyric acid is prepd. by teating 4-isobutylphenylacetonitrile with diethyl carbonate to give the malonic acid deriv. of formula (II) then (II) is treated with a haloethane in an alkaline medium to give the alpha-ethyl deriv. (III) hydrolysing the ester gp. to give the corresp. acid (IV) in which the nitrile gp. is finally hydrolysed to give the desired acid. The prod. is an antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agent with low toxicity and less likely to cause gastric irritation and ulceration than aspirin.
