titleOfInvention 2-mercaptobenzothiazole prodn - by reacting aniline carbon disulphide and sulphur
abstract Process comprises reacting aniline with CS2 and S at elevated temps. and pressures in which the reaction is carried out first at 250-300 degrees C and then at 200-240 degrees C. In a prefd. process, the reaction is carried out in two series-connected reactors, the first being a tubular reactor with a length/diameter ratio of not 100 (esp. 500-8000) and operating at 150 kg/cm2. Products are subjected to a gas/liquid sepn. process and purified to give the title cpd. (I) in high yield. (I) is useful as a vulcanisation accelerator for rubbers.
