titleOfInvention Aq. multi-phase coating compsn. contg. coating agents - and insolubilising agents, for wide ranging applications
abstract Aq. coating compsn. comprises either 2 aq. continuous phases, which can be dispersed in one another by agitation; or an aq. continuous phase and disperse phase(s) of aq. gel globules and continuous phase(s) contg. insolubising agent(s) (I) for (one of) the constituents of the aq. gel; or a continuous aq. phase and disperse phase(s) of particles contg. water. All phases are practically immiscible or insol. in each other; (one of) the phases present contains substance(s) suitable for forming a coating; and (one of) the phases present has a hue or texture different from the other phase(s). Two or more of the aq. phases pref. contain aq. film-forming substances of different appearance. The compsn. can be used to prepare a dry compsn. Pref. (I) is a film-forming substance, which is incompatible with the other film-forming substance in the particles, or a coagulant for the film-forming substance in the particles, esp. when this is a hydrophilic colloid. In this case, the particles pref. contain another film-forming substance. The coagulant can be present in the particles and in the dispersion medium. The compsn. can be prepd. by adding the coagulant to an initially homogeneous aq. mixt. contg. a film-forming substance and mixing to produce a dispersion. Pref. dispersions contg. the different aq. film-forming substances are prepd. separately and then combined. The compsn. is used for coating paper, leather, straw hats and soundproofing materials used on ceilings and walls; and for producing a smooth or textured finish on ceramics, glass and metals.
