titleOfInvention Oxygenated decalin derivs as perfume constituents - e.g. trimethyl 3,7,7- as or trans-bicyclo(4.4.0)-decanol-3
abstract Title cpds. have the formula (I) (where R = H or 1-3C alkyl or acyl residue, and are esp. useful as perfume constituents to give a natural, rich and lingering oriental-type perfume. Typical cpds. (I) are trimethyl-3, 7, 7-cis- or trans-bicyclo (4.4.0)decanol-3, trimethyl-3, 7, 7-trans- or cis-bicyclo(4.4.0)decylacetate-3, and trimethyl-3, 7, 7-methoxy-o-trans- or cis-bicyclo-(4.4.0)decane. (I) are prepd. by hydrogenation of cpds. (II) e.g. at atmospheric pressure using Pd on charcoal, catalyst, followed if desired by acylation of the reslting alcohol e.g. with an acyl chloride in the presence of a tert. amine or by alkylation of the alcohol with an alkyl halide such as methyl iodide, ethyl iodide, etc.
