titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING DYED FIBERS, TAPES, OR FILMS.
abstract The product is made from a hydrophobic, water insoluble, high mol. wt. resin in granule or powder form in a mixture of hydrophilic (I) and organophilic (II) solvents with limited mutual solubility to give a two phase system plus pigments and optical brighteners, more soluble in II than I. The resin is then dried. The resin may be thermoplastic (polyamide, polyester). I is water, II is a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon or ketone e.g. cylochexanone or mesityl oxide. The proportion of pigments is 0.1-10% of resin. The hydrosolubility of II is 5-60 g/litre and the preparation contains 5-75% pigments dissolved in II. The particles are uniformly coated with a well bonded layer of pigment resistant to abrasion and suitable for mixing by extrusion giving a uniformly coloured product.
