abstract The article has a predetermined quantity of liquid sterilizing agent are sealed in a flexible container, the walls of the sealed package are flexed so that the interior surface of the container and the exposed surface of the article are exposed to the agent and the package is heated at 120 - 212 degrees F for >30 mins. ot sterilize the article. The sterilizing agent is hexachlorophene, iodophor, parachlorometahexanol, Na ethylmercurithiosalilylate or benzalkonium chloride, pref. a soap soln. of 1-6% hexachlorophene. The process is used for the sterile packaging of resilient, liquid-absorbent pads or sponges used by surgeons for preoperative hand scrubbing. The process has the advantage that the spores of bacteria are also killed.
