titleOfInvention Process for the production of B-glycolide and its use
abstract Pure beta-glycolide (I), which can be polymerised in the absence of catalysts by heating in an atmos. of controlled humidity, is prepd. by storing a mixt. of alpha- and beta- glycolide isomers in an atmos. having 1-60% R.H. or by inoculating mixt. with 0.1-10 wt.% of moisture- and catalyst-free (I). The catalyst-free polymers are useful for medicinal and surgical purposes, esp. as enteric coatings for pills and are hydrolysed in alkaline zone of digestive tract.
