Process for the preparation of polymers which contain sterically hindered phenol groups and their use as stabilizers |
abstract |
Polymers (II) useful as stabilisers for org. materials, esp. polyolefins, pref. polypropylene, against decompsn. by UV light are prepd. by the free-radical initiated polymsn of a monomer of general formula (I): (where R is lower alkyl; A is OCnH2n- or -(OCxH2x)y-; n is >=3 and x and y are 2 or 3; the sum of C in alkyl gps being >=4 and both alkyl gps. may be tert. and O- to the OH) opt. with >=1 butadiene and/or isoprene. (II) may also be used to raise activity of phenolic stabilisers, giving a synergetic effect. |
