titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of cyclic ketones |
abstract | Cyclic ketones (I):- where R1 = 1-5C alkylidene, R = lower alkyl and n = 0, 1, 3 or 4, are made by (a) alkylating cyclohexane-1,3-dione by reacting with an alkyne halide X-(CH2)n-C triple bond R2 where R2 = 1-5C alkylidene rad., X = halogen and n = 0, 1, 3 or 4, (b) reacting the resulting 2-alkynylcyclohexane- 1,3-dione with a halogenating agent; (c) treating the 2-halo-2-alkynyl-cyclohexane-1,3-dione with a mineral or organic base or with an alkali metal salt acting as a base to give a 2-alkynyl-cyclopent-2-one, (d) adding a dialkylmalonate across the double bond of the ketone using a basic catalyst; (e) hydrolosing and then decarboxylating the dialkyl-2-alkynyl-3-oxo-cyclopentylmalonate by treating it with a base followed by an acid, (f) esterifying the resulting 2-alkynyl-3-3xo cyclopentyl acetic acid and (g) partially hydrogenating the ester using a partially poisoned hydrogenation catalyst to give the (I). |
