abstract | Organic compound with two available H atoms is oxidised to H2O2 in organic solvent mixture, or H2O2 is added to solvent. 0.1 - 0.6 mole Me2B4O7 per mole H2O2 is added and the mixture is recirculated for e.g. 40 min. at 10 - 60 degrees C. Solid product is filtered off. Me may be alkali metal, e.g. Na. Reaction proceeds by stages; Na2B4O7 right arrow NaB4O7.H2O2 right arrow NaBO2.H2O2 right arrow NaBO2.2H2O2 + NaBO2.H2O2. Purification is by benzene washing and vacuum drying. Method is safe, and avoids loss of active oxygen. |
