abstract | Filling capacity of tobacco is increased by contacting it with the vapours of an inert organic cpd. (I) having atmospheric b.pt. - 50 degrees to 80 degrees C.; then, without cooling the prod. to a temp. below prevailing pressure b.pt. of (I), subjecting it to vapour release so as to expand the tobacco. Final prod. contains no liquid or solid (I). (I) is esp. a Freon or (iso)pentane. Process is continuous, easily controlled and does not require handling large quantities of liquid. |
