titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of ethers of 1a, 2a-methylene-19-nor-testosterone and its 18-alkyl homologues |
abstract | 1alpha,2alpha-methylene-19-nor-testosterone ethers and 18-alkyl homologues of general formula (I): - R = lower alkyl - R1= tetrahydropyranyl or alkyl (C1-4). - (I) have anabolic activity with little androgenic activity. - They may be used in all cases requiring increased albumin synthesis such as in convalescence, deficient conditions, after X-ray- and cytostatic treatment, anaemia, prolonged corticoid treatment, osteoporosis, chronic liver complaints etc. - A mixture of 1 g. of 17beta-hydroxy-1alpha,2alpha-methylene-4-oestren -3-one (prepd. as described in GE.Pat. 1,237,111), 25 ml. tetrahydrofuran, 2.5 ml. of dihydropyran and 0.02 mg. phosphorus oxychloride are stirred together for 2 hrs. at ambient temp. The mixture is poured into aqs. NaHCO3 soln., filtered and worked up to give 1.05 g. of 17beta-tetra-hydropyranyloxy-1alpha,2alpha-methylene- 4-oestren-3-- one. |
