(e.g. octadecylethyl-silanylamine) is quaternised by reaction with CnH2n+1X (in which X is a halogen, sulphate or phosphate gp) e.g. ethyl bromide; and the product is mixed with usual components of hair-care compsns. Hair shine is enhanced and grooming is facilitated, there is no greasy feeling.
