Process for the production of a single-layer or multilayer sheet, the sheet produced in this way and its use |
abstract |
A leather substitute made from aqueous compositions by paper-making techniques contains 50-80% by weight of a non-fibrous polyurethane elastomer and 20-50% of a mixture of long fibres (preferably synthetic) and leather fibres (possibly tanned). The leather fibres are at least 33% of the total fibre weight and at least 10% of the total weight. A cheap process gives a product whose properties are comparable to a best quality leather. The material is flexible, permeable to air and uniform in composition. Uses are for footwear. In the aqueous composition the polyurethane is in the form of globules or agglomerates, the average size being 1-100 microns. |
