abstract | Prepn. of a rigid polyamide foam comprises heating a mixt. of a polyamide with a relative of viscosity of at least 50, measured on a 8.4% soln. in 90% formic acid/water, and a blowing agent consisting of a carbamate of formula I. X = an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or araliphatic group; Y = H or X; or X and Y together with the N atom from a heterocyclic group; and R = an aliphatic, alicyclic or araliphatic group. - The present blowing agents I enable high mol. wt. polyamides to be effectively foamed. The foamed polyamides combine light weight with high strength, and are esp. useful for prodn. of components for the building and furniture industries. |
