titleOfInvention | Process for the production of molded polyurethane structures |
abstract | Polyurethane articles are produced by eliminating the solvent from solutions containing (1) the reaction products of polyhydroxyl compounds, polyisocyanates, and low molecular weight chain extending compounds having at least 2 active H atoms, and (2) fillers, pigment, and other additives as required. The desired concentration and viscosity of solution are obtained by adding solvent as the polyaddition reaction proceeds. In particular the polyhydroxyl compound is an OH-terminated polyester or polyetherester having a molecular weight between 500 and 5000 and is prepared from aliphatic dicarboxylic acids and aliphatic diols or diol ethers HO - (CH2-CRH)y - O - ((CH2-CRH)z - O) n H where R is H, CH3, or C2H5; y is 1 or 2; z is 1 or 2; n is 0 to 12. The viscosity and the polymer content of the composition can be varied independently provided a careful choice is made of the time of addition of the solvent. Articles produced include flexible films and microporous films. |
