titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of benzotriazoles
abstract N-hydroxybenzotriazoles opt. substd. by halogen, acyloxy, 1-12C alkyl, alkoxy or carbalkoxy, are reduced to benzotriazoles, useful as Cu deactivators, e.g. in anti-freeze solns., synthetic ester lubricants for jet aircraft, wax polishes and protective wrappings for Cu objects, by contacting with a trivalent P cpd., esp. a trialkyl- or triaryl phosphite, e.g. triethyl- or triphenyl phosphite, or pref. a P trihalide, more pref. PCl3 or PBr3, e.g. in an inert organic solvent, under reflux, esp. at 60-80 degrees C.
