titleOfInvention | Process for the production of tenebrimycin |
abstract | Tenebrimycin (X), a basic antibiotic complex produced by Streptomyces tenebrarius ATCC 17920 and 17921. (X) and its constituents show antimicrobial props. The micro-organism, e.g. 17920, is deep-cultured aerobically in the absence of light in a nutritive medium contng. suitable sources of C and N and inorg. salts, at 37-43 deg. for 4-7 days. The mycelium is separated at pH 2 and (X) extd. from the filtrate by adsorption on a cation exchange resin at pH 5.5, followed by elution with dil. acid and final isolation as the sulphate. This may be fractionated on IRC-50, eluting with aq. NH4OH, to yield at least 7 fractions, as follows: (I), (I') and (III) in small amts., (II) 45-50%, (V) ca. 30%, (IV) 15-20% and (VI) ca.10% of the mixt. ATCC 17920 also produces the known caerulomycin; 17921 produces only (II) and very small amts. of (I) and (I'). |
