abstract | (A) Compounds where R and R' = (1-7 C) alkylene X = lower alkyl sulphonyl. (B) Pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts (I) have a high degree of anti-trichomonal activity (e.g. against Trichomonas vaginalis and Trichomonas foetus). (a) By reacting an approp. alkylmercaptan with a 5-nitroimidazole deriv. having a chloroalkylene side chain in a suitable solvent. The resulting thio cpd. is then treated with 2-stoichiometric equivs. of H2O2 to give the corresp. sulphonyl cpd. (b) By reacting an approp. alkysulphonyl ester of p-toluene sulphonc acid with a 5-nitroimidazole deriv. 1-(2-Ethylsulphonylethyl)-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole. |
