titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of vinyl halide polymers |
abstract | Vinyl halide polymers prepared by the free radical polymerisation of a vinyl halide monomer CH2 = CHZ where X is a halogen and Z is H or a halogen, in the presence of an aliphatic polymercaptan having at least 3 SH groups per molecule. The amount of mercaptan is such that there is 0.00015-0.05 equivalents, especially 0.003-0.002 equivalents, of -SH per mole of monomer. The thermal stability and ease of processing of the polyvinyl halide are improved without affecting the physical properties. The solubility is increased and coating solutions can be prepared. |
