abstract Cpds. of formula (I), which may opt. contain further substituents in rings A, B, C and D. where R=C1-5 alkyl, R1=H or C1-5 alkyl, R2=Me or Et. Progestative, claudogenic and ovulation-inhibitory properties. Anhydrous oxalic acid (2 g) in H2O (20 ml) is added to a soln. of (II; R=Et, R1=H, R2=Me) (1 g) in MeOH (150 ml) and the mixture is stirred 0.5 hr. at room temperature. Et2O is added and the Et2O layer is washed with aqs. NaHCO3 and with H2O, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated (II; R=Et, R1=H, R2=Me).
