abstract | Heat stabilisers for halgen-contg. polymers, esp. PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride copolymers, consist of (a) 0.1-10% (pref. 0.25-2%, esp. 0.3%) of a cpd. (RSnX1.5)n where R = C1-20 alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; X = O or S or a mixt. of 1-10 pts. O and 10-1 pts. S; and n = 2-1,000, (b) 0.01-2% (pref. 0.01-0.5% esp. 0.06%) of a cpd. (c) opt. 0.01-5% (pref. 0.05-3%, esp. 0.8% of a cpd. R"'bSn(SR"")4-b where R"' = alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl or aryl and R"" = carboxylic acid or ester gp. or a gp. similar to R"', and b = 1-3. (a) is polymeric alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl stannous or thiostannous acids (b) is suitably 2,6-di-tert.butyl-p-cresol, 2,6-di-tert. butyl phenol, 2,2'-methylenebis (4-methyl-6-tert. butyl phenol) etc. |
