abstract (A) Bis(p-hydroxyaryl)-alkane carboxylic acid derivs. with formula (I) where P is either and R1 = hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkylene-B-group in which B = basic nitrogen-contng. radical with less than 12C atoms R = hydrogen, hydroxy, nitro, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkanoyl, halogen or dialkylamino-lower alkylene group R2 = hydrogen or hydroxy R3 = hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, lower alkynyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, thienyl, pyridyl, thienyl-lower alkyl or pyridyl lower alkyl group R2 and R3 together can also represent oxo. R4 = lower alkyl, lower alkynyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl lower alkyl, thienyl, pyridyl, thienyl-lower alkyl or pyridyl-lower alkyl group. n = 1-5. (B) Acid addition salts of (I) with organic and inorganic acids. The cpds. show therapeutic action, in particular they are hypocholesterolemic.
