titleOfInvention | Protein test mix |
abstract | Test compn. for detecting protein in fluids (partic. urine), which contains a pH responsive chromogenic indicator (I) which exhibits 'protein error' ((I) has normal fixed acid and basic hues), a buffer (II) that maintains the pH of the compn. within (novel feature) (pref. near mid-point) the pH range in which (I) is normally responsive to a change in pH ((II) such that (I) changes colour to (or towards) one of the fixed hues), and a background colouring material (III) which exhibits the other hue. (I) may be tetrabromophenolphthalein Bu ester, bromcresol green, methyl yellow, congo red, bromthymol blue, thymol blue, bromphenol blue, methyl violet 5B, Na alizarine sulphonate, alizarine bromcresol purple, or o-cresolsulphonephthalein, pref. tetrabromophenol blue (pref. buffered to pH 3.0-4.6, esp. 3.4-4.0), or tetrabromophenolphthalein Et ester (pref. buffered to pH 3.7-5.2, esp. 4.0-4.8). (II) pref. Na citrate-citric acid. (III) may be FD and C Yellow Nos. 1 and 2, D and C Yellow No. 1, etc., pref. F, D and C Yellow No. 5 (tartrazine). Compn. is pref. impregnated on filter paper etc. (thickness pref. 0.01-0.02 in.). |
