(I) and (II) R1=H or alkyl and R2=alkyl, alkenyl, or cycloalkyl or R1 and R2 and N form a heterocyclic residue R3=H, alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl R4=H, halogen, alkyl, CF3 or acyl (B) Ketals of (I) and (II) (C) Acid addn. salts of (I) and (II). CNS active anti-depressants, with weak anticholinergic side effects. Rac. -tr-2,3,3a,12b-tetrahydro-2-thioxo-8H-dibenzo (3,4,6,7) cyclohept (1,2-d)oxazol-8-one (5 g), MeOH (25 ml) and Me2NH (25 ml), were refluxed 1 hr. at 63 deg. under N2, evapd., and taken up in 2 NHCl. The soln. was washed (Et2O), basified (NH4OH), the ppt. dissolved in CH2Cl2, the soln. dried, evapd. in vac. and the residue recryst. (MeOH), giving I, m.p 158-9 deg. (Hydrochloride m.p 238-240 deg.).
