titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of saturated and unsaturated cyclododecanecarboxylic acids |
abstract | The mixture is made by treating cis, trans, trans-cyclododeca-1,5,9-triene with an equimol. mixture of CO + H2 (1:1 to 3:1 molar w.r.t. hydrocarbon) in presence of Co acetate as catalyst (less than 1.5, pref. 0.05-0.15 wt.% Co w.r.t. hydrocarbon) at 100-200, pref. 130-165 degrees C, and a pressure of 90-250, pref. 100-180 atm., to give a cyclododecylaldehyde mixture contg. up to 80% of singly and doubly unsatd. cpds. This is then oxidised at 10-70, pref. 30-50 degrees C, with air without catalysts, but in presence of un- or partly hydrogenated cyclododecanes, present in the reaction mixture or added. The aldehyde mixture pref. consists entirely of formylcycododecane. The carboxylic acid mixture is useful for polyamide prodn. |
