abstract Analgesic, sedative, antidepressant and antiemetic 11-piperazinyl-dibenzo-1,4-thiazepine-5-oxides (I) and acid addition salts are prepd. by oxidising the corresp. dibenzo-1,4-thiazepines; R2 = H, allyl, alkyl or alkOH or alkOalk or alkoyloxyalkyl; R2 = NO2, NH2 or SO2NR3R4 (R3, R4, same or different = H, CH3), SOR5 or SO2R5 (R5 = lower alkyl). The thiazepine-oxides where R1 = H may be used for preparing oxides where R1 = allyl, lower alkyl or alkoxy or is not >6 C-alkOalk or alkoyloxyalkyl by reacting the former cpds. with a reactive ester of alcohol R1OH. In an example, an acetic and soln. of 2-nitre-11-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-dibenzo b,f -1,4-thiazepine is oxidised with an aqs. soln. of sodium metaperiodate to the corresp. 5-oxide.
