Coating compositions for use in the electrodeposition of coatings on metal articles consist of an aqueous soln. with a pH of at least 6,5, of (1) a copolymer of (a) 20-91% wt. of a C1-20 alkyl (meth)acrylate, (b) 3-20% wt. mono- or difunctional C3-6 alpha-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and/or a half ester of such an acid and a C1-10 alkanol, (c) 6-25% wt. of an N-(hydroxyalkyl)-or N-(oxa-alkyl)amide of methylacrylic acid with a C1-10 hydroxyalkyl or oxaalkyl group, and (d) up to 70% wt. of an unsatd. comonomer; (2) an alkyd resin modified with maleic anhydride, or with oils/fats-maleic anhydride reaction products; (3) optionally a phenoplast and or aminoplast resin; (4) ammonia and/or a basic organic nitrogen compd.; and (5) water with optionally up to 10% wt. of an organic solvent. |
