abstract | (a) Process for the preparation of cpds. of formula (I):- where R=H, alkyl, or halogen, by treatment of cpds. (II) (R1=Cl or Br) with potassium t-amylate in an aromatic hydrocarbon. (B) Cmpds. (I) and (II) except where R=n pentyl in 3-posn. A variety of pharmaceutical activities are shown by (I) for example psychomimetic, bactericidal, sedative, and analgetic effects. The reaction is pref. carried out in benzene at 0-10 deg. then heating to 50-70 deg. (II) are prepared from a substd. resorcinol and 1, 5, 8-menthatriene and (+)-cis or (+)-trans-p-menthadienol-(1). |
