titleOfInvention | Process for making new testosterone esters |
abstract | (A) Testosterone derivs. (I):- R and R1 = H or methyl a = a single- or double bond between C4-C5. When a = a single bond, the 5-H atom is in the alpha-configuration n = 0 or 1 (B) Haloformates of testosterone of formula (II):- X = F or Cl. The 1-adamantyl- and 1-adamantylmethyl carbonates of testosterone and derivs. have long lasting androgenic-anabolic activity and may be used instead of testosterone and its simple esters when this activity is desired. The 1-adamantyl- and 1-adamantyl-methyl carbonates of 19-nortestosterone and derivs. are anabolic-androgenic agents with a favourable anabolic- to androgenic ratio and are very suitable in cases where a strong and lengthy anabolic effect is required, such as weight increase, increase in muscular power and engendering a feeling of well-being in mammals. The fluoroformates of testosterone, 19-nortestosterone and derivs. have anabolic-androgenic activity in birds and mammals and are useful for male gonad replacement therapy in pre-puberty and post-puberty castrates, pituitary dwarf growth etc. (II) are strong inhibitors of pituitary secretion and may therefore be used for regulating the oestrus of mammals such as valuable domestic animals. They also have an anti-fertility effect in mammals and may be used as agents to regulate animal populations. 19-Nortestosterone fluoroformate has a favourable anabolic- to androgenic ratio and is valuable for growth promotion and weight increase in valuable domestic animals. |
