abstract |
An improved method of forming microcapsules of polyurea and chitosan encapsulating a beneficial agent is provided. The process comprises the formation of an aqueous phase comprising the hydrolysis of chitosan in an acid medium at a pH less than or equal to 6.5 for an extended period and the combination with a polyisocyanate. The reaction product of hydrolyzed chitosan and polyisocyanate produces a microcapsule with improved release characteristics, with improved degradation characteristics in the OECD 301 B test method. |
