Abstract The present invention relates to a process for producing bis13-isopropeny1-ct, a-dimethylbenzyl] carbodiimide . The process produces the bis13-isopropeny1-et, a-dimethylbenzyllcarbodiimide via carbodiimidization in the presence of basic cesium salts in a temperature range of 160 C and 220 C. The process according to the invention overcomes difficulties of the prior art and without any notable disruptive side effects in terms of discoloration and foam formation. The thus-produced bis13-isopropeny1-a,a-dimethy1benzy11carbodiimide may be used as a hydrolysis inhibitor in polyurethane (PU)-based systems, preferably thermoplastic TPU, PU adhesives, PU casting resins, PU elastomers or PU foams.
