The application discloses a method of determining long-term prognosis in a subject identified as having diabetes, comprising detecting an amount of free light chains (FLC), preferably the total amount of FLC, in a sample from the subject, wherein a higher amount of FLC is associated with a decreased probability of long-term survival of the subject or increased severity of symptoms associated with diabetes. |
