abstract A biocompatible surgical scaffold made from a multi-filament silk yarn for soft tissue reconstruction. The scaffold incorporates regions of varying stretch having different physical and mechanical properties that allow contouring to the required soft tissue shape to be replaced or repaired. The porous structure allows tissue in-growth, while the mesh degrades at a rate which allows for a smooth transfer of mechanical properties to the new tissue from the silk scaffold.
