abstract This apparatus for measuring characteristics of metal material is provided with: a laser oscillator, which outputs a pulsed laser beam; a lens array, which has a plurality of small lenses having a same shape, said small lenses being spread in matrix on a surface perpendicular to the optical axis of the pulsed laser beam, and which is disposed such that a part of the pulsed laser beam, said part being obtained by dividing the pulsed laser beam with respect to a beam cross-section, is inputted to each of the small lenses; a light collecting lens, which collects output light from the small lenses of the lens array by overlapping the output light with a same region on the surface of a metal material to be measured; a laser interferometer, that detects, as an electrical signal, pulsed ultrasound, which has been excited by means of the pulsed laser beam collected by the light collecting lens, and which has propagated inside of the metal material.
