Anti-microbial catheter having a plurality of exit holes and an anti-microbial substance |
abstract |
The present disclosure is directed to a catheter having a tubular body with an interior lumen, the distal end of the tubular body having exit holes spaced along the length of the body. The exit holes form a flow-restricting orifice for the flow of fluid from within the lumen. The flow rate of fluid exiting the more proximal exit holes is substantially equal to a flow rate of fluid exiting the more distal exit holes. The exit holes are sized so that fluid introduced into a proximal end of the lumen first flows towards the distal end of the tubular body and fills the distal end without exiting the catheter through the exit holes until a threshold pressure is reached, wherein the fluid then exits the catheter via the exit holes. The tubular body includes an anti-microbial substance for the sustained release of the anti-microbial substance into the fluid. The diameter of each exit hole is about 5 microns. |
